“Brotherhood Beyond College” (Martin Hilliard ’89)
Martin Hilliard ’89 shares how joining PIKE as a freshman—when the chapter was still a colony at MSU—became a defining part of his college experience. As chapter president, he says the role built practical leadership skills like budgeting, conflict resolution, and balancing responsibilities. His takeaway for today’s undergrads: invest in relationships, show up consistently, and take advantage of the network and opportunities PIKE can open.

Alumni engagement comeback: Mike Virkus ’94 and a “shared foundation”
Another feature explains why Mike Virkus ’94 reconnected with PIKE after the pandemic-era dip in alumni engagement, especially as his son Ben (class of ’23) joined and later became chapter president. Mike joined the house corporation in spring 2024 and helped organize community workdays where alumni, members, and even family pitched in on chapter-house maintenance—long days that paid off in stronger pride and better care of the house.
